Said in the '70s... to no effect?

We will see how very important it is to bring about, in the human mind, the radical revolution. The crisis is a crisis in consciousness. A crisis that cannot, anymore, accept the old norms, the old patterns, the ancient traditions. And, considering what the world is now, with all the misery, conflict, destructive brutality, aggression, and so on… Man is still as he was. Is still brutal, violent, aggressive, acquisitive, competitive. And, he’s built a society along these lines.

J. Krishnamurti

Perhaps more than 30 years after these words were spoken I sent them to most of my friends in the form of a video. Some fell asleep on it in the first minute. Some didn't find the time for it, considering the demands of modern life. And in my opinion, all are cases of the omnipresent ADD of the modern man.

I (used to) enjoy sharing and discussing matters of the life. Yet now, my rare occasions of a discussion resembles web surfing. My conversation partner reads through my words and before I could finish my statement follows the links in a word. In less than a minute we're talking about completely different subjects. But just like web surfing, we both have the vague impression that somehow the conversation is still linked to the "home page" we've left of.

EDIT: Initially I didn't want to post the videos just to make it more entertaining to search and find it, for the easily distracted :-)

  1. The effects of the words should be seen in you, not in the whole society. The crisis of consciousness is a crisis of the self; the society is hopeless, the individual alone can be saved.

  2. Well for one this "dude" spoke those words over 30 years ago and little improved, if not worsened.

But then I didn't mean that I wish to see a change in me or my friends. I just meant this message is completely lost on the contemporary world. The modern man is too busy to afford hearing an opinion to its end and digesting it.

Modern man digests a couple of worlds before its mind flies to a totally different subject having not much clue about what is being said or what he is saying.

My conclusion is that the induced attention disorder by education and modern environment is worse than brainwashing. But I guess they call it entertainment, we don't need no education or self control, we need to be entertained.
